“I’m very excited to be organising another ball. It gives me a reason to carry on and I love doing things in James’ memory” – Susie has raised more than £41,000 for EACH

A mum with a “lifelong connection” to a charity close to her heart is arranging a fundraising ball in memory of her son. James Thorndyke had Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) and received care at EACH’s former Quidenham hospice.

He died five days short of his first birthday, in February 2017.

Ever since, mum Susie, from Forncett St Mary, has become a great supporter and successful fundraiser, donating more than £41,000.

The bulk of that money has come from two charity balls and she is arranging a third at Dunston Hall Hotel, just outside Norwich, on Saturday, 9th March 2024.

“I’m very excited to be organising another ball,” said Susie, who, together with husband Justin, a farmer, has 11-year-old twins, Oliver and Ethan, and a five-year-old daughter, Katie.

“The previous two have been great and I’m proud to have raised so much. I’m delighted and feel organising fundraisers like this keeps me going.

“It gives me a reason to carry on and I love doing things in James’ memory. EACH is an amazing charity and will always be important to me.

“I’ll always have that lifelong connection and be eternally grateful for the care and support we received, as a family.”

Susie’s ball will run from 6.30pm until midnight and tickets cost £47 (tables of ten are available). The price includes an arrival drink and three-course set meal.

There will also be a raffle, auction, casino tables and live music from Agent Orange. To book a ticket, call Susie on 07918 556323 or email susieash12@gmail.com

She would also love to hear from any individuals or businesses interested in sponsoring the ball.
