Youngsters hit the back of the net during an action-packed day of football fun.
The event was organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and hosted by the Cambridge United Foundation.
It was for brothers and sisters who are either bereaved or have a sibling receiving care at Milton.
Fifteen youngsters visited the League One club and highlights included a guided tour of the Cledara Abbey Stadium.
They got to walk around the pitch, sit in the dug-outs and see both dressing rooms, as well as meeting club mascot Marvin the Moose.
After lunch, they enjoyed a quiz together before having the chance to grill first-team player Fejiri Okenabirhie during a special Q&A. The striker also posed for photos and signed autographs.
“The children had so much fun and we’re extremely grateful to the Cambridge United Foundation,” said EACH Family Support Practitioner Fay Wilde.
“They were brilliant and put so much effort into the day, having to be flexible and adapt plans because of the weather not playing ball!
“All the staff were so welcoming and it was lovely seeing them interact with the siblings throughout the day.
“Every one of the children said they had a great time.”
After a wet start, the rain cleared and youngsters were able to get outside and take shots at a giant inflatable goal – scoring points by hitting certain targets – as well as playing games including Giant Jenga.
Ed Taylor, the Cambridge United Foundation’s Engagement and Wellbeing Programme Manager, said it was an honour to host the EACH party.
“I’m so glad we were able to put on this very special day,” he said.
“As a club and foundation, we have so much respect for the amazing work EACH does to support families across Cambridgeshire.
“It’s brilliant to hear the siblings had a great time and we enjoyed it very much, too.
“Hopefully we can repeat it again soon – although in the summer next time, rather than a wet Thursday in February!”
EACH commissioned a special film to be made on the day, which has been posted on its website and is being shared via social media.
In addition to speaking to Fay and Ed, it also features interviews with three children who explained why they enjoy sibling days so much.
The day started and finished at Milton, where the group travelled by luxury coach courtesy of Dews Coaches.
The Cambridge-based company are long-term supporters and provide transport for sibling days completely free of charge.
