Symptom management nursing service (SMNS)
Children with life-threatening conditions can experience complex symptoms. Our symptom management nursing service (SMNS) aims to improve the quality of life of those in our care.
We work closely with families to assess a symptom before developing an appropriate and individualised management plan. Our SMNS team provides specialist nursing care, advice and support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, wherever the child is being cared for.
About the service
Flexible assessment locations
Assessment can be carried out in the family home, at one our three hospices or at a local / regional hospital.

If needed, we can direct families to other services to meet their child’s health and wellbeing needs.
Collaborative care approach
We work in partnership with a child’s key professionals to ensure appropriate, individualised care.
On call service
Our service offers 24/7 phone and virtual assessments, with urgent home or hospice visits available, and may recommend hospital evaluations for a child as needed.
