Committed colleagues are swapping hard hats for running shoes as they prepare to take on the TTP Cambridge Half-Marathon.
Charlotte Heavey, David Clark, Simon Gill, Michael Mungovan, Tom Evans, Mason Newman, Joseph Snaith, Carl White and Courtney Northrop work for Munro Building Services and are raising funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
They will be joined by Tom Dowdeswell, who is Business Development Manager for supplier Pump Smart.
“As part of my job, I work closely with the EACH fundraisers and have seen first-hand what services the care team provide to families, and it always touches my heart when I visit their Milton hospice,” said Operations Coordinator Charlotte.
“I’m proud that I get to represent Munro in taking on this challenge and raising funds for EACH.
“It’s an amazing charity and one we’re proud to work alongside.
“Our teams both in the office and on site have seen the staff’s dedication and commitment to the children and families they support.
“It’s given us all some perspective in our own lives, which is why we’ll continue to support this great cause as best as we can.
“As it’s my first half-marathon, I’m a bit nervous but can’t wait for the sense of achievement I’ll feel when it’s completed.”
Charlotte, 25, will be joined on the start line by Director David, Associate Director Simon, Divisional Manager Michael, Commissioning Manager Tom, Project Manager Mason, Project Engineers Joseph and Carl and Trainee Project Engineer Courtney.
Cambridge-based Munro are long-time supporters of EACH, having last year completed a full renovation and refurbishment of the family accommodation at Milton.
“Munro have supported EACH over the last few years and the Cambridge Half-Marathon is a great way to further that relationship, raising awareness and vital funds, so it can continue the incredibly important service it provides,” said Simon, 49.
Mason, 30, described the decision to help as a “no-brainer”.
He added: “I’ve always wanted to do something like this.
“Before Christmas, a couple of colleagues and I took a trip to Milton to see the facilities and get some insight as to what goes on there.
“The work, care and effort they put in for the children and families is truly outstanding and makes an incredible difference when they need it most.”
The Cambridge Half Marathon, first run in 2012 and this year taking place on Sunday, 8th March, is regarded as one of the biggest and most beautiful events of its kind in the UK.
It is one of the county’s biggest mass-participation events and the flat, single-loop course took runners on a scenic tour of the city, passing the Round Church, King’s College, Fitzwilliam Museum and The Backs.
There will be two EACH ‘cheer points’ along the route, where staff and volunteers will be cheering on the runners and offering sweets and drinks.
“We’re so thankful to the team for choosing to support us,” said Erin Henry, EACH’s Senior Corporate Fundraiser for Cambridge and West Essex.
“Funds raised through challenges of this nature make a real difference to the children and families we support, and we’re deeply grateful for the time, effort and dedication shown by everyone involved.”
