Families supported by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) enjoyed a unique opportunity to experience life on a working farm in Norwich.
The Farm-tastic Adventure, hosted by Crown Point Estate, in Kirby Road, was open to both bereaved families and those with a child receiving care at The Nook.
It gave families the opportunity to get up close to impressive farm machinery and enjoy a range of hands-on activities.
There were tractor and trailer rides, while children enjoyed using ride-on toys, playing barn games including splat the rat, exploring sensory grain activities and getting creative with farm-themed crafts.
They also enjoyed meeting much-loved miniature horse Jack Brock, who was brought along by EACH supporter Ali Stern.
The evening finished with a delicious barbecue, giving families time to enjoy good food and each other’s company.
“For many of the families receiving our support, opportunities like this are incredibly special,” said Clare Oakley, EACH’s Groups and Events Co-ordinator at The Nook, who attended with Music Therapist Jane Rous-Milligan.
“It isn’t every day you get the chance to experience life on a working farm, climb aboard a tractor or explore a barn full of activities.
“Seeing families laughing together, making memories and simply enjoying being outdoors was wonderful.
“We’re so grateful to Crown Point Estate for creating such a memorable experience. It was a lovely, joyful evening.”
Twenty-five family members attended, and the event was supported by two wellbeing volunteers from The Nook.
Families were full of praise for the evening, describing it as ‘fantastic’ and ‘great fun’. One parent said: “The children had a really lovely time and especially enjoyed Jack Brock.” Another family said: “Thank you so much for organising another fantastic event. It was amazing and my son loved it.”
