Tickets are selling fast for a comedy and music extravaganza that raises vital funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
More than 1,000 have already been snapped up for Happy Christmas Ipswich 6, taking place at The Ipswich Regent on Thursday, 4th December.
Driven by dedicated EACH Patron Griff Rhys Jones, the show is being headlined by popular comedian Tim Vine – known for his puns, one-liners, witty songs and bag of props – and will also feature local talent in the form of Suffolk’s Royal Hospital School Drummers and 20-year-old British-Mexican jazz pianist Oscar Lyons, from Bury St Edmunds. More acts will be confirmed soon.
“To have sold two-thirds of the tickets already is remarkable, equating to over £50,000 in revenue,” said Ali Butler, EACH’s Senior Community Fundraiser for Suffolk. “We’re delighted, and, with many more acts to announce in the coming weeks, my advice would be to get in quick if you’d like to come.
“It’s always an amazing, unforgettable night, and these fantastic shows have raised a total of over half a million pounds for EACH, since the first one in 2019. That’s an eye-watering thought – not to mention the incredible publicity and awareness generated as a result.”
Griff met a family receiving care during a visit to The Treehouse this morning, helping publicise the show during a special media event where he spoke to local radio and TV.
Debbie and Daryl Streatfield brought daughter Ava, 15, who has Cerebral Palsy. She is non-verbal and needs oxygen. The family have been receiving care and support from EACH since 2010.
“We couldn’t be more thankful to Griff,” added Ali. “He brings such energy and enthusiasm, and none of what we’ve raised and achieved from these shows over the years would be possible without his incredible backing.
“At a time when funding challenges couldn’t be tougher, we’re also so thankful to everyone who comes along and supports us every year. The money raised makes such a monumental difference to our work caring for children and supporting families across East Anglia.”
Last year’s show starred Gavin and Stacey favourite Ruth Jones, as well as comedians David Baddiel, Omid Djalili and Joe Pasquale. It smashed new ground after raising a record-breaking £146,500. The bill also included West End and Broadway legend Ruthie Henshall, comedian, doctor and broadcaster Paul Sinha, impressionist Jon Culshaw and comedian Nathan Caton.
December’s show promises to be extra special as it will be the first performance since a major redevelopment project at the Regent. The work, ongoing now, includes a new single-storey extension, improved accessibility and refurbished facilities. The theatre, which has a capacity of 1,551, has been closed since May.
Happy Christmas Ipswich 6 is being supported by headline sponsor Richard Johnston Ltd.
