Kind-hearted students arranged a series of fundraising events including karaoke and a spicy food challenge to show their support for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The special charity week was organised by Sixth Formers at Diss High School and led to a bumper cheque of more than £3,500 being presented to EACH’s Senior Community Fundraiser for Norfolk, Ellie Miller.
Another highlight was a mouth-watering cake sale, while Business BTEC students organised a successful auction and well-attended quiz. The auction alone raised nearly £1,000.
Student George Litewski said: “Our fundraising week was a huge success, raising much more money than we’d initially expected.
“The committee enjoyed organising the events, and the enthusiasm and morale created within the school was very rewarding to see.
“As a school, we’re very proud to continue supporting EACH.”
The karaoke and spicy food challenges were both for the school’s teachers, and the week finished with staff karaoke.
More than 20 students also took part in a sponsored walk at Knettishall, with kind permission from the Suffolk Wildlife Trust.
Teacher Elizabeth Hughes said: “So many staff and students gave up their time to make the week a success, and it was wonderful to see students of all ages enjoying themselves for such a wonderful cause.”
Ellie was delighted to pay a visit to collect the cheque and said: “It was lovely to meet some of the students who worked hard to make this fundraising week such a success.
“We’re very grateful to all involved and not least the teachers who were clearly good sports and got in the spirit throughout.”
