“The garden is unique and breathtaking, with so much colour and beauty. It’s a very tranquil place and promises to be a special sensory experience” – Norwich’s Bishop’s House Garden is opening to the public to raise funds for EACH

Norwich’s oldest private garden is being opened to the public for an eye-catching East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) fundraiser.

Visitors will be able to explore the Bishop’s House Garden – regarded as one of the city’s best-kept secrets – on Sunday, 4th August.

The four-acre plot includes a herb garden, long herbaceous borders, a ‘jungle’ walk, a large wildflower labyrinth and fruit orchard, extensive shrubberies and many rare and unusual plants. There is also a kitchen garden and bamboo walk.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a view of the north side of Norwich’s cathedral, which can only be seen from the garden, and see one of the biggest tulip trees in Norfolk.

“We’re truly grateful for this rare and fantastic opportunity and our thanks go to the Bishop of Norwich, The Rt Revd Graham Usher, and Mrs Rachel Usher,” said Ellie Miller, EACH’s Senior Community Fundraiser in Norfolk.

“The garden is unique and breathtaking, with so much colour and beauty.

“It’s a very tranquil place and promises to be a special sensory experience, with something for the whole family to enjoy.

“We very much look forward to seeing as many people as possible.”

There will be refreshments, a plant stall, face-painting, live music from Norwich Ukulele Society and arts and crafts with EACH Patron Lucy Loveheart.

Young visitors will also be able to enjoy a children’s treasure trail.

Gates will be open from 1pm until 4.30pm and the fee is £5, with all proceeds going to EACH.

Under-16s, who must be accompanied by a paying adult, and wheelchair users are free.

Only assistance dogs are allowed on site and the garden can be accessed opposite the law courts.

Parking near the cathedral is limited, with a small pay and display car park just outside, or further parking at St Helen’s Wharf.

Online ticket sales will close at 4pm on Friday, 2nd August. To book, head here. Tickets will also be available on the day.
