Generous members and visitors to Flempton Golf Club swung into action and raised nearly £6,000 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The organisation was nominated as Charity of the Year by 2025 men’s and ladies’ captains Jeremy Nunn and Claudia Robins.
The pair organised a variety of fundraising events, including a successful charity day in July.
“Our club is a hidden gem, steeped in history and with a beautiful heathland course that is playable all year round,” said Jeremy, who previously helped raise funds for EACH in his role with Thurlow Nunn Standen.
“We’re immensely proud of it, and this fundraising shows how generous our members and visitors are. Everyone got behind us and was keen to support a local cause that does such incredible work.
“It’s clearly a very worthy charity and one that resonated with many people.”
In addition to their Men’s and Ladies’ Open Days, Jeremy and Claudia, who have now passed on the captains’ batons to their successors, organised a successful charity day that was entered by 11 teams.
Players were able to ‘buy’ a mulligan, allowing them to repeat a shot or take it again for no penalty, and there was a ‘beat the pro’ competition.
Other highlights included a silent auction, where members and visitors bid for prizes that included fourball green fees at other clubs, and a grand raffle.
Nearly £300 was raised from a fun forfeit where golfers had to pay £1 if their shot landed in Jeremy and Claudia’s nominated bunkers, while one generous member donated £530.
Flempton is a nine-hole club near Bury St Edmunds, sitting adjacent to the Lackford Lakes Nature Reserve. It is regarded as one of the best nine-hole courses in the UK.
Jeremy and Claudia presented a cheque for just over £5,724 to EACH Community Fundraising Manager Tina Burdett shortly before Christmas.
Tina said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the club’s members and visitors for their generosity and support, and it’s thanks to community partners like this that our work is possible.
“Their donation will make a real difference to the children and families receiving our care and support.”
