Cambridge United supporters are being encouraged to give generously and help the club raise vital funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The League One outfit have designated next Saturday’s home match against Shrewsbury Town as their ‘Giving Day’ for EACH.
The players will be wearing shirts bearing the charity’s logo, after BrewBoard kindly allowed their sponsorship to be foregone for the day. All shirts will then be signed and auctioned following the game.
There will also be a bucket collection outside the ground, while fans can make a donation via the club’s Just Giving page.
In addition, supporters are asked to bring good condition and new toys to a collection point, which will ultimately raise funds by being sold in EACH shops.
“It’s a pleasure to use our reach and profile to help vulnerable members of the community,” said Cambridge United’s Head of Communications, Dan Branowsky.
“EACH is the club’s designated charity partner for the 2024/25 season, and we’ll be throwing the full weight of our support behind this incredible cause next Saturday.
“EACH relies on voluntary donations to run its vital services, so anything you can give will make a difference.”
The match is part of a blossoming relationship between EACH and the U’s, and more than 70 family members receiving support from the charity will be in attendance on Saturday.
Back in June, Cambridge stars Liam Bennett, Zeno Ibsen Rossi and Kelland Watts met young fans while delivering kit bearing the EACH name and logo to the charity’s Milton base.
The trio met families, signed autographs and had a kickabout during a special visit organised to mark the launch of the club’s new junior and infant shirts.
It followed hot on the heels of a special sibling day organised by EACH and the Cambridge United Foundation, for brothers and sisters who are either bereaved or have a sibling receiving care at Milton.
Fifteen youngsters visited the League One club, and highlights included a guided tour of the Cledara Abbey Stadium.
They got to walk around the pitch, sit in the dug-outs and see both dressing rooms, as well as meeting club mascot Marvin the Moose.
“We’re so grateful to everyone at Cambridge United,” said EACH Senior Corporate Fundraiser Sam Woo.
“The club have shown outstanding support this year, and everyone – both family members and staff – are looking forward to our dedicated matchday on Saturday.
“It’s going to be a special occasion and a special sight to see the players wearing kit bearing the EACH logo.
“We’re excited to have a presence at the game and look forward to having lots of conversations with supporters, raising both funds and awareness of our work.”
