“We had some brilliant, colourful and creative entries, and it was great to hear what the younger generation thinks of our lovely town” – children show their support by entering a summer postcard competition

Budding artists got creative for a special cause after taking part in a fun competition organised by Dovercourt’s East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) shop.

Children were encouraged to design a summer postcard, and their brief was to draw or colour a picture and write a few words about why they love the area. They were encouraged to design a stamp and add the name and address of the person they were sending it to – either real life or made up. The contest was judged by Harwich’s Deputy Mayor, Sean Fay.

“It was a great success, and we had some brilliant, colourful and creative entries,” said shop manager Kathryn Newell. “It was great to hear what the younger generation thinks of our lovely town. Mr Fay was very impressed and said it was a hard decision to choose the winners, as all the postcards were amazing.

“In the end, we had prizes for our two winners, Henry and Mia. Their entries were particularly well-drawn and thought out, and both were extremely excited to find out they’d won.”

Both won giant cuddly toys – one a pink pig and one of the Star Wars character Grogu.

Meanwhile, anyone interested in volunteering in the shop can pop in for a chat, email Kathryn via [email protected] or call 01255 442707.

This year alone, EACH needs to raise £8 million from donations and fundraising activities and £9.8 million in retail income. Only 15% of its income comes from the government, county councils and the NHS.
