“It was such a fabulous response from the community, and we couldn’t be more grateful to all those kind-hearted customers who made a donation” – toy drive organised by The Works leads to a bumper delivery to EACH

Generous shoppers dug deep and bought more than £1,000-worth of new toys and games for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

Lowestoft’s branch of The Works organised the initiative and made a special delivery to the town’s EACH shop, in London Road South.

Customers had the opportunity to buy anything in-store and leave it with staff to put in their collection basket behind the counter.

The value of the toys and games from The Works was in the region of £850, but that total was topped up with donations from other shops.

Lee Carter, EACH’s Lowestoft shop manager, said: “It was such a fabulous response from the community, and we couldn’t be more grateful to all those kind-hearted customers who made a donation, as well as staff at The Works.

“I was blown away when I saw what had been collected. There was so much and everything was brand new.”

The Works specialises in books, art supplies, toys, games and stationery. Sales Assistant Nina Rackham, along with Shop Manager Sean Murley, delivered the gifts just before Christmas.

She said: “It was beautiful, and people were very kind and generous.

“One elderly gentleman donated £30 and then came back the next day and the day after with bags of new toys. He was just one of very many amazing customers.

“It’s a wonderful example of community spirit, spreading some seasonal cheer in the build-up to Christmas.”
