“These young people often experience challenges that can go unnoticed, which is why offering them their own special days is so valuable” – youngsters enjoy the chance to sit in a fire engine before travelling on a vintage bus

Youngsters became mini firefighters before enjoying a ride on a vintage bus during an action-packed day organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The unforgettable event was for children who are either bereaved or have a brother or sister receiving care at The Treehouse.

Seventeen youngsters took part, and their day started with a special visit from Ipswich East Fire Brigade. They had the chance to climb aboard a real fire engine, try on kit, blast water from a hose and even hear the wail of the sirens. The children were then collected by a beautifully restored retro bus and travelled in style to the Ipswich Transport Museum. They spent the afternoon there, exploring an impressive collection of historic vehicles and taking part in hands-on activities, before travelling back on the same vintage bus.

“Being able to provide special sibling days for these children is so important,” said Kelly Evans, EACH’s Groups and Events Co-ordinator at The Treehouse. “These young people often experience challenges that can go unnoticed, which is why offering them their own special days is so valuable. These events give siblings the chance to enjoy time just for them – to have fun and connect with others in similar situations. As always, we cannot thank our local community enough for providing us with such special experiences to share with them.”

Kelly said she was extremely grateful to both Ipswich East Fire Brigade and the Ipswich Transport Museum.

EACH runs sibling days during the school holidays, allowing youngsters to come together, have fun and make friends in a safe environment.
