“Everyone had a fantastic time, and it was great seeing so many children, parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles having fun together” – The Nook’s popular family fun day has a princesses and superheroes theme

Families came together for a day of princess and superhero-themed fun organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The popular summer event was for those either bereaved or with a child receiving care at The Nook.

Fifty-nine people representing 14 families enjoyed a host of activities, including a special themed trail through the hospice grounds and finishing in The Rest and Reflect Garden.

They had an opportunity to meet princesses Elsa, Anna, Rapunzel and Ariel, as well as lookalikes from the hit film Ghostbusters.

Other highlights included decorating a tiara, fairy door, superhero mask or superhero keyring, a sensory game with spaghetti and a ‘target the baddies’ challenge using water guns.

The day was made possible by a number of volunteers, who gave their time to ensure everything ran smoothly.

Among them was Karen Self, who was on photo duty and captured dozens of beautiful images to share with families.

“Everyone had a fantastic time, and it was great seeing so many children, parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles having fun together,” she said.

“These days are so special, and, thankfully, the weather was perfect. It wasn’t too hot or cold, and the rain held off until we were packing up.”

The Nook’s family fun day took place on Saturday, 26th July.

There was a delicious barbecue, live music from the Funky Feet Choir and volunteer Colin Roe, who brings along a traditional organ, garden games, a chance to stroke Jack the Shetland pony and meet owner Ali and entertainment from Geoff Sharkey, of Musical Keys.

Children were also able to let off steam on The Nook’s playground and have their faces painted and hair braided, thanks to volunteers from Center Parcs.
