Families enjoyed arts, crafts and fun during a music-themed celebration at The Nook.
As well as getting creative by making instruments, they also watched performances, listened to stories and tucked into a delicious barbecue lunch.
The Summer Fun Day was for families being supported by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) at its Framingham Earl base.
Sensory activities took place throughout the hospice, including the chance to make instruments and play with musical shakers, hand bells and maracas, as well as creating ‘telephones’ with cups and string.
There was also fun with Clown Doctors, a singalong with Geoff Sharkey, of Musical Keys, and singing from Funky Feet School of Dance and Performing Arts, led by representative Laura Calver.
“It went well and the weather was perfect – warm but with a breeze and some cloud cover,” said Emma Chilvers, The Nook’s Care Manager.
“In total, 75 people came along, including more than 30 children.
“There was such a range of crafts and activities to suit all interests and the upshot was that everyone had a great time.
“Families had a chance to mix, connect and support each other and that’s one of the most important things during an event of this nature.”
There were more activities in the music room and on the care floor, including a music-making session with Creative Arts East, led by representative Aphra McSherry Birley.
Meanwhile, Center Parcs staff were on hand to offer hair braiding and facepainting and the meeting room doubled up as a ‘chill-out zone’.
“Despite so many people coming along, it retained an intimate feel and there was a lovely, relaxing atmosphere,” added Emma.
“As well as the various craft stations, another big highlight was our new playground, which proved extremely popular.
“Seeing it so busy, and everyone having fun, was one of my standout memories.
“It was so lovely and the great thing about the day was that there was something for everyone.
“The team did a great job and organised everything so well.
“We were also very grateful to the volunteers who gave up their time to support us.
“They were brilliant and helped in so many ways to make the day a success. Without them, it wouldn’t have been possible.
“We were also grateful to the members of staff from Center Parcs, too. They were kept busy throughout but took it in their stride.”
The Summer Fun Day took place on Saturday, 10th August.
