“It really is a win-win situation, because we love playing our music but also feel strongly about raising money to support worthy causes” – the Cambridge Concert Orchestra is performing a special show for EACH

A musical extravaganza is on the cards at a toe-tapping fundraiser for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The Cambridge Concert Orchestra is performing in Impington, and all proceeds will go to the charity, which has one of its three bases in nearby Milton.

The ‘Music for EACH & Everyone’ is taking place on Saturday, 30th November, and the programme is set to include Ernest Tomlinson’s Comedy Overture, Gustav Holst’s Folk Songs from Somerset, A Tribute to Henry Mancini and music from Beauty and the Beast, composed by Alan Menken. The pieces are all very different, but there is a theme to the concert that will be revealed on the day.

“We’re only too happy to support EACH,” said orchestra chair Jan Mentha.

“It’s a fantastic, local charity, and, while it’s a place you hope your family never has to use, it’s great to know it’s there if needed.

“We’re a bunch of enthusiastic amateurs but perform to a high standard and welcome the opportunity to support different charities.

“In this instance, we have a personal connection as one of our members worked at the Milton hospice and can vouch for the care and support provided there. Their suggestion of EACH for our next concert met with the whole orchestra’s approval.”

The Cambridge Concert Orchestra consists of nearly 60 talented musicians and was formed in 1967.

Their upcoming concert, which will be conducted by Suzanne Dexter-Mills, gets underway at 3pm at Impington Village College, in New Road.

In addition to the proceeds of ticket sales, there will also be a bucket collection on the night.

“We play things people will know, and some things they won’t be aware of, but there’s genuinely something for everyone,” added Jan, who plays the viola.

“Everything is family-friendly and accessible, and no-one will be disappointed.

“It really is a win-win situation, because we love playing our music but also feel strongly about raising money to support worthy causes. We usually organise three concerts of this type a year.

“Along the way we’ve made some great friends and had the opportunity to support some wonderful charities in our community – in this case EACH.”
