Motorcyclists revved into action to show their support for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
Suffolk Trail Riders (STR) raised funds after hosting its popular Iceni weekend.
The event attracts members and non-members from across the country to enjoy two days of guided riding along the byways of Suffolk and Norfolk.
They are split into small groups, and an experienced club leader is appointed to take them on a route around Suffolk one day and Norfolk the next, or vice-versa. The Norfolk route is often a ride to Hunstanton.
In the evenings, they enjoy a social get-together, raffles, food and light entertainment.
Around 100 riders took part, and the event raised in the region of £4,500 for various charities – leading to £1,000 being presented to EACH.
A cheque was recently handed to Halesworth shop manager Maria Clark.
Luke O’Brien, from STR, said: “Far from tearing around muddy fields, we’re a group of like-minded motorcycle riders who believe in sensible, respectful riding and engagement with the public.
“We love getting out on our bikes and having fun but also doing some good to support charities and give something back to our communities.
“EACH has been one of our beneficiaries for some years now, and, over the years, we’ve raised nearly £15,000. it was our pleasure to raise the amount we did this time and then present it to Maria.”
The Iceni weekend is open to members and non-members, and the entrance fee covers a weekend camping/camper van pitch at The Angel Inn, in Larling.
STR members meet once a month and usually organise two rides a month, often locally but sometimes further afield to places including Kent, Cumbria, Yorkshire, Scotland, Wales and even France.
The club is associated to the BMF British Motorcycle Federation, and the other charities to benefit were Headway, Suffolk Accident Rescue Service, East Anglian Air Ambulance and Depden Care Farm.
