“It was the obvious charity to support, due to its locality and significance, as well as our immediate connection to Griff, and we were so pleased to reach and exceed our £500 target” – students organise a special competition for EACH

Kind-hearted golfers teed off for a special fundraising competition endorsed by celebrity Griff Rhys Jones.

Thirty-six players took part, and the event raised more than £500 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

It was organised by Jasper Fairhall, Dan Parsons and Harley McNess – all Sixth Form students at the Royal Hospital School, in Holbrook.

The school has a connection with EACH Patron Griff, who recorded a short video message encouraging golfers to sign up and join in the fun.

Those that competed included teachers and parents, as well as members of the Royal Hospital School Golfing Society.

“The day was a great success, and we’ve received lots of positive feedback,” said Jasper.

“The idea came about after the three of us started playing more golf.

“It felt like the course at our school was underutilised, so we decided to arrange a fundraising competition for EACH.

“It was the obvious charity to support, due to its locality and significance, as well as our immediate connection to Griff, and we were so pleased to reach and exceed our £500 target. Hopefully it now becomes an annual event.”

The winners were a father-and-son duo, and their prize was lessons with a PGA coach, as well as a round at Purdis Heath Golf Club, in Ipswich.

Jasper, Dan and Harley organised a raffle where the main prize was a £500 TV donated by DA Media. Also up for grabs was a football signed by the Ipswich Town squad.
