Kind-hearted fundraisers donned festive outfits and took part in a long-running Santa Run for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The popular event saw more than 600 students and members of staff from Great Yarmouth Charter Academy tackle the seafront challenge and raise £2,656.
In return for a donation, they wore Christmassy jumpers and hats and ran just over a mile and a half along the North Denes beach.
It means in the last decade, since the school organised its first Santa Run in 2014, the students have raised more than £25,500.
“A massive thank you goes to all involved, including staff and the families who supported us, for making this such a successful event,” said PE Curriculum Lead Paul Andrews.
“There was a great atmosphere, with pupils bringing in donations and sponsorship money, and we were even graced with a visit from Santa himself.
“He decided to get some fitness work in before the holidays, adding to the festivities.”
The Santa Run is organised by the school’s PE department and December’s event featured youngsters from Years Seven to Ten. Braving chilly conditions, they represented their houses as part of a competition.
It took place on 15th December and a cheque presentation recently took place at the school, when staff and students met EACH Senior Community Fundraiser Natasha Butler.
“The school has been a fantastic supporter over a number of years, and we’re so grateful for their continued support,” said Natasha.
“I hope they feel rightly proud of themselves, because we’re very proud of them.
“These vital funds will continue to make a huge difference to the children and families receiving our care and support, and we’re sincerely grateful.”
