Students have the chance to make their money go further by enjoying generous savings in a popular charity shop.
A 20 per cent discount is being offered to youngsters in full-time education at the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) store in Colchester High Street.
All they need to do when buying items is show their student card, lanyard or any other form of student identification.
The new scheme is a three-month trial and starts on Monday (8th September).
“Colchester is a busy, fast-growing town, with lots of schools and both the Sixth Form College and Institute within walking distance of our shop – not to mention the University of Essex, in Wivenhoe,” said manager Sammy Mauldin.
“That’s why we thought we’d try this new scheme, offering students a generous discount when they buy things instore.
“Hopefully it’s a mutually beneficial arrangement – helping them stretch their money further while also raising vital funds for our charity.
“One of our other shops elsewhere in the region has a similar system in place and they have students who visit up to five times a week.”
Meanwhile, fashion-conscious students and other customers will be excited to know that the shop now has a dedicated denim section.
EACH has 54 shops across the region, including six in North Essex.
In addition to Colchester High Street, the others are in Clacton, Dovercourt, Frinton, Halstead and Stanway.
Anyone interested in volunteering in Colchester High Street can pop in for a chat, email Sammy via [email protected] or call 01206 489732.
This year alone, EACH needs to raise £8 million from donations and fundraising activities and £9.8 million in retail income. Only 15% of its income comes from the government, county councils and the NHS.
