A determined soldier is putting his fitness to the test by taking on an energy-sapping ultramarathon.
Jonathan Ferguson, part of the 23 Parachute Engineer Regiment, based in Woodbridge, is taking on the gruelling 50-kilometre challenge to raise funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The 30-year-old has never run such a long distance but says his strength and cardio training is going well.
“I’m feeling well and looking forward to it,” said married dad-of-two Jonathan, who hails from Stockton-on-Tees, in the North-East, but now lives in Bury St Edmunds.
“I like pushing myself, and this is definitely going to be a big test, as I’ve never done an ultramarathon before.
“However, I love a challenge and am pleased and proud to be supporting EACH.
“I always wanted to raise money for a children’s charity and believe this is exactly the right one.
“It does such incredible, meaningful work to support children and families going through difficult times.
“I’d be so grateful to anyone kind enough to sponsor me. Every pound is invaluable, truly makes a difference and will have a significant impact.”
The St Edmunds trail half-marathon, marathon and ultramarathon is based at the Ickworth National Trust estate, just outside Bury.
The course is largely off-road initially, around the estate on the all-weather track, before leaving the park and heading towards Nowton.
