Siblings proved lucky mascots after going behind-the-scenes at Peterborough United and watching their team roar to a stunning 5-0 victory.
The trip was organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and included a stadium tour, seeing inside the home dressing room, sitting in the dug-outs and meeting popular mascot Peter Burrow.
Nine children attended, who are either bereaved or have a brother or sister receiving care at EACH’s hospice in Milton.
After being shown around the London Road stadium, including a chance to admire the club’s gleaming trophy cabinet and visiting the Fan Zone, the siblings met four Posh players – Peter Kioso, Harley Mills, Matt Garbett and Gustav Lindgren.
They then took their seats in the Meercat Family Stand and cheered the team on as Posh thrashed AFC Wimbledon. Kioso’s pinpoint cross led to the first goal, before Lindgren grabbed the last two goals to cap a memorable 5-0 victory.
“We had a fantastic day, and the siblings were clearly lucky charms, seeing five goals and a big home win,” said Sam Woo, EACH’s Senior Corporate Fundraiser for EACH, who manages the charity’s relationship with Posh.
“It was a great experience and something completely different, giving the children a sneak peek behind the scenes at a professional football club.
“It also gave them an opportunity to spend quality time together, having fun and forging new friendships.
“Our sincere thanks go to Peterborough United, who looked after us so well and made it such an unforgettable day.”
The trip to London Road took place on Saturday, 8th November and Sam was joined by Ceri Dobson, EACH’s Groups and Events Co-ordinator at Milton, and Family Support Practitioner Fay Wilde.
Harry Leonard scored Posh’s first two goals, including a penalty, before Kyrell Lisbie made it 3-0 in the League One encounter.
“We were absolutely delighted to welcome the children and team from EACH to the Weston Homes Stadium,” said Posh Commercial Director Alex Harris.
“Community partnerships like this are a huge part of what our club stands for, creating memorable experiences and giving something back to those who inspire us with their strength and positivity.
“It was fantastic to see the smiles on everyone’s faces, and we couldn’t have asked for a better result on the pitch to top off such a special day.”
