“The staff should be so proud because they brought history to life in the most exquisite way. It was truly magical and an incredible, engaging experience” – siblings get a glimpse of the past during an interactive trip to Blickling Hall

Siblings stepped back in time and immersed themselves in history during a mesmerising trip to Blickling Hall.

The educational excursion was organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) for children with a brother or sister receiving care at The Nook.

During their tour of the National Trust property, they encountered members of staff who embraced the opportunity to bring history to life — stepping into the roles of former residents such as Anne Boleyn, the future wife of King Henry VIII.

They had the chance to interact with the characters and ask questions about their lives, while also meeting reenactors portraying people who lived and worked on the estate.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to go on several sibling trips, but this was one of the best,” said Mila Sousa, EACH’s Family Communications Co-ordinator.

“It was truly magical and an incredible, engaging experience.

“The staff should be so proud because they brought history to life in the most exquisite way.

“The way they stayed in character was brilliant. The depth and breadth of their knowledge was phenomenal, and I could have listened to them for hours. It was especially impressive as this was the first time they had done anything of this sort.”

Blickling Estate, mentioned in the Domesday Book, is situated in 5,000 acres of parkland in a loop of the River Bure.

During their visit, the siblings learnt a dance, admired portraits of some of the key figures they met and took a woodland walk around the hall’s impressive gardens.

They also wandered through various rooms like the Long Gallery Library, which contains one of the most historically-significant collections of manuscripts and books in England.
