Youngsters got up close and personal with animals including a majestic African lion while visiting Johnsons Zoological Gardens.
The Easter treat was for children being supported by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
They were either bereaved or have a brother or sister receiving care at Milton.
Twenty-one children made the trip and met a host of fascinating animals, including emus, cows, otters, bears, parrots, donkeys, goats and turkeys.
They then spent time in the reptile house, seeing caiman lizards, crocodiles, pythons, tortoises and colourful fish.
“We had such a brilliant day and are so grateful to Johnsons, for giving us free access to their magnificent zoo and letting us eat our packed lunches in The Steakhouse,” said Ceri Dobson, EACH’s Groups and Events Coordinator at Milton.
“The children loved seeing the animals, and one of the highlights was getting close to a lion, when it came up to the glass. It was absolutely huge and very impressive.
“The children made new friends and also enjoyed spending time on the playground, as well as collecting letters and cracking a code during an Easter trail.”
Ceri added that she was grateful to Cambridge-based Dew’s Coaches, for providing free transport from Milton.
Johnsons Zoological Gardens is in Old Hurst, near Huntingdon.
