“Trips like this give the children an opportunity to do something different in a place they might not necessarily go with their families” – siblings create their own artwork during a day of fun at the Sainsbury Centre

Youngsters got creative and explored amazing artwork while visiting an international museum in Norwich.

The trip was organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) for siblings who are either bereaved or have a brother or sister receiving care at The Nook.

Four children enjoyed a day at the Sainsbury Centre, on the University of East Anglia campus in Norfolk Road.

They warmed up by playing fun games with a parachute play canopy and then had the chance to get creative – attaching shiny, silver streamers to balls and launching them into the sky to create sparkling comets.

The children then worked in groups and used different-sized square and rectangular guttering to make their own unique sculptures.

After lunch, the children explored artwork in the gallery.

They were asked to draw their favourite piece in just two minutes and worked together to create a story, linking everyone’s sketches together.

“It was a fun-filled, very enjoyable day,” said Clare Oakley, EACH’s Groups and Events Co-ordinator at The Nook.

“Trips like this give the children an opportunity to do something different in a place they might not necessarily go with their families.

“It was lovely to see them get creative, learn about different types of art and, crucially, enjoy being together.

“We look forward to our next visit and are thankful to the Sainsbury Centre, who looked after us so well and made us feel extremely welcome.”

Clare was joined by EACH Play Specialist Heidi Foster and volunteer Roisin Murray.
