Families gathered for a feast of festive fun including live music, singing, dancing and the chance to meet Santa Claus.
The themed band practice session was organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) for those being supported at The Treehouse.
Ten families came along and enjoyed a singalong as EACH Music Therapist Ray Travasso and guests performed festive favourites including Jingle Bells, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
The session also included readings from famous films, food galore and a special appearance from Santa, who read ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas.
Among those to attend was two-year-old Bumble Owens, who has Septo-optic Dysplasia and the rare neurological disorder Moebius Syndrome. She was there with parents Louise and James.
Louise said: “What a wonderful, special and magical evening. We loved it.
“Bumble has both visual and hearing impairment, but she absolutely loves music. Her eyes light up and she loves touching and playing with instruments.
“We’re relatively new to the hospice, but it’s been such an enormous source of support to us all.
“It’s such a clean, safe and welcoming environment, and Bumble loves interacting with other children here. In that respect, she’s come on leaps and bounds.
“It’s also a special place for us, as parents. Having such incredible support takes the load off mentally, and a fun event like this makes you realise that far from doom and gloom, it’s a place to celebrate life and create memories.”
Other musical highlights included the carols Silent Night, Once in Royal David’s City and a solo performance by 12-year-old Ruby Streatfield, who played the cornet for the first time in public. Sister Ava, 14, has Cerebral Palsy and receives care at The Treehouse.
Ray organised the event alongside EACH Groups and Events Co-ordinator Kelly Evans and Play Specialist Hailey Allen.
He said: “One of the film quotes we heard during the evening was ‘love is all around’, and this event was a great example of that.
“Christmas is all about bringing loved ones together, and so many people from across the community, including staff, volunteers and our guest musicians, came together to support the families.
“It was a magical evening, and my thanks go to everyone who came along or went out of their way to make it possible.”
