“The demand and fantastic response makes me so proud, and I’m always warmed when people say it’s become a tradition in their home” – Jack and Amelia are back with their latest Christmas quiz raising vital funds for EACH

Quizzers are being urged to put their thinking caps on and sign-up for a popular fundraiser that has become a staple part of many families’ Christmas celebrations.

The festive fun is being organised by husband-and-wife duo Jack Hedley and Amelia Reynolds, who are once again raising funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The couple have a personal connection with the charity as their friend’s son received end-of-life care and died in August 2022.

Jack, 72, has been writing quizzes for more than 20 years and released his first specifically for EACH in 2020.

Since then, he and Amelia – who organises the fundraising side of things and manages their JustGiving page – have gone on to raise more than £10,000.

The quiz can be printed off and used at any family or group get-together, in exchange for a donation.

I set a target of £2,000 for this year’s quiz and achieved it with ten days to spare,” said Jack, who lives in Colchester.

“However, we don’t want to stop there, and everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

“Every pound makes a difference, and it’s so rewarding raising money for such an incredible charity.

It never ceases to amaze me that only 15% of EACH’s funding comes from the government, county councils and NHS.

“For the rest – the vast majority – it relies on public donations and fundraising.

“This is our way of helping, while also going a small way to keeping the memory of our friend’s son alive.”

Anyone wanting to play along should make a donation by heading here.

Then contact Jack via jack.hedley@yahoo.com to be emailed a quiz pack.

Topics to test the grey matter include a colourful picture round and questions on music, food and drink and general trivia.

“For several years, I created a quiz for extended family which preceded our traditional Christmas curry,” added Jack.

“Friends used to ask for a copy, before it was suggested I could post it online and market it to raise money for charity.

“The rest is history, as they say, and the quiz has raised several thousand pounds for EACH.

“The demand and fantastic response makes me so proud, and I’m always warmed when people say it’s become a tradition in their home.”

The suggested minimum donation is £5, and, to further boost the total, Amelia, who works for the London Stock Exchange, will be applying for match-funding up to £2,000.
