“It gives families the opportunity to meet others in a small group and allows us to show how music impacts on the sensory systems and emotional wellbeing” – session helps under-fives develop their movement and physical skills

Little ones developed their physical skills during a monthly music and movement group at Milton.

The session was organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and run by Lead Arts Therapist Katherine Walters, Physiotherapist Gretta Davies and Occupational Therapist Jo Crane.

This group was developed as the physical therapies team and music therapist wanted to promote how music can be used to help relax the muscles of children who struggle to relax, and also facilitate communication and movement.

Two families attended and it was especially for under-fives who are not yet walking, helping their movement and physical skills.

Among the aims was to give parents support in terms of positioning their child in order to help them play.

Katherine said: “It was a lovely group and we only invite three or four families at a time, so it’s a very gentle environment for everyone.

“It gives children and families the opportunity to meet others in a small group and allows us to show how music impacts on the sensory systems and emotional wellbeing.”
