“We like to think each of the ladies learnt a bit about themselves and enjoyed spending time with others going through similar experiences” – mums look a million dollars after being treated to a special makeover day

Mums being supported by their local children’s hospice enjoyed a day of rest, recuperation and pampering after being treated to an exclusive makeover experience.

It gave them an opportunity to take a break from their daily routines and enjoy time focused entirely on themselves.

From new hairstyles to painted nails and glowing make-up, the day was all about helping each mum feel refreshed, relaxed and radiant.

It was organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) in collaboration with The Blossom Charity and Dream On Boutique, based in Eye, Suffolk.

A draw took place to decide which mums took part, with two apiece coming from EACH’s bases in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

“The ladies spent time with our hairdresser, and some were very brave, choosing to have completely new styles,” said Amanda Church, The Blossom Charity’s Style Director.

“They also enjoyed a lesson with our make-up artist, as well as being given gel nails or a mini manicure.

“Each lady then spent time with our clothes stylists, picking outfits that suited them.

“As well as being a treat day, we like to think each of the mums learnt a bit about themselves and enjoyed spending time with others going through similar experiences.

“One described it as ‘magical’, saying it was nice to be pampered and have time to pause and be looked after.

“The whole team were blown away by the ladies and can’t wait to hold another makeover day in the autumn.”

The day also included lunch and photos, finishing with a glass of non-alcoholic fizz.

Nearly 40 mums, female and non-binary carers, older sisters and grandmothers had initially applied, and they were either bereaved or have a child/relation receiving care at The Nook, near Norwich, The Treehouse, in Ipswich, or at Milton, near Cambridge.

Clare Oakley, EACH’s Groups and Events Co-ordinator at The Nook, said: “It was a truly incredible experience, and we’re so grateful to The Blossom Charity and Dream On Boutique.

“The team there are amazing and offer an incredible service, giving these mums a chance to feel special and appreciated. They give so much every day, and it’s important to create moments where they can relax, recharge and enjoy themselves.”

The makeover day took place on Friday, 27th March.
