“Everyone was smiling, and it was a truly magical afternoon and evening for the children and families receiving our care and support” – Santa Claus comes to town for a Winter Wonderland extravaganza at The Treehouse

More than 200 family members enjoyed live music, crafts, activities and the chance to visit Santa’s grotto during a spectacular Winter Wonderland at The Treehouse.

The festive extravaganza was organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) for those receiving care and support at its Ipswich base.

They also had the opportunity to explore a dazzling winter light trail, stroke donkeys, browse community stalls, make wooden reindeer and enjoy mince pies, mulled wine and hot chocolate.

Other highlights included games on the playground, the chance to touch or hold a snake and meeting a Pets as Therapy (PAT) dog.

“This Winter Wonderland was everything we hoped it would be and more,” said Kelly Evans, EACH’s Groups and Events Co-ordinator at The Treehouse.

“It was filled with laughter, happiness and lots of special moments, and it was such a joy to be part of something so positive.

“The atmosphere was amazing; everyone was smiling, and it was a truly magical afternoon and evening for the children and families receiving our care and support.

“My colleagues went above and beyond, and I can’t thank our tireless volunteers enough. Some arrived first thing in the morning to help set up.

“To say they played a key role would be an understatement, and events like this remind us why community support is so important.

“We were incredibly proud of what everyone helped us create, and special thanks go to those who volunteered their time and offered their services free of charge.

“This includes Ipswich Wildlife Group, Snakes Alive, Alex Rogers and North Pole Railway, face painter Abbie Khangaroot, James Aleksic and the Limelight Choir, John Pilborough and our brass band, Jude Pearce, who brought the donkeys, and BT and Bower Fuller, who installed lights for the event during a corporate day on 9th December.”

Families were able to visit two craft stations – decorating festive biscuits and making ribbon baubles – and see a model train display based in the hospice’s music therapy room.

There was also live music, with a brass band and choir alternating throughout, while youngsters had great fun playing under a snow machine.

The Treehouse Winter Wonderland took place on Saturday, 13th December.
