“We’ve had feedback asking for more events in Peterborough, as lots of the families we support live in that part of Cambridgeshire. This seemed a perfect fit and was absolutely brilliant” – Milton siblings enjoy a trip to Laserforce

Youngsters donned battle suits and became space heroes for the day during a high-octane trip to Laserforce.

The event was organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) for children who are bereaved or have a brother or sister receiving care at Milton.

Twenty-five youngsters aged six to 13 took part, and they enjoyed exclusive use of the science-fiction themed maze in Peterborough.

Sporting illuminated battle vests, they were armed with phasers and strived to score as many points as possible by zapping targets and opponents.

“We’ve had feedback asking for more events in Peterborough, as lots of the families we support live in that part of Cambridgeshire,” said Ceri Dobson, EACH’s Groups and Events Co-ordinator at Milton.

“This seemed a perfect fit, and we had full use of the venue for two hours.

“It was absolutely brilliant, and the children had such fun. A few of them had done it before, with their families, but, for many, this was their first visit to Laserforce.

“Everyone enjoyed it so much, and we had some lovely feedback afterwards.

“One child said he never questioned whether he’d love it – it was taken as read he’d have a great time.

“Lots of them said they felt more confident as the day went on, and they all said they did better than expected.”

A dozen of the children travelled from Milton courtesy of Dews Coaches, who again provided transport free of charge, and they met the others at Peterborough.

After being split into four teams, the first two went into the arena, while the remainder had their packed lunches in the reception foyer.

They also had time to enjoy the centre’s arcade games, in addition to table football and air hockey.

The children then swapped, so everyone got equal time.

“They enjoyed lots of social time together, and the session finished with everyone in the arena, including playing a Minions-themed game,” added Ceri.

“There was lots of great team work, and they protected each other, crowding around team-mates until they were able to run away or start shooting back.

“We had a great time, and it’s definitely something we’d like to do again. The Laserforce staff were very accommodating and great hosts.”

EACH runs sibling days during the school holidays, allowing youngsters to come together, have fun and make friends in a safe environment. This one took place on Tuesday, 18th February.
