Because of our age and health issues, we’re not able to do much. However, this is something we can do to try and make a difference” – kind-hearted Dunstan Court tenants enjoy tea, coffee and cake to show their support for EACH

Kind-hearted tenants from a Cambridge housing with care scheme brewed up for a worthy cause to show their support for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

Sheila Oliver, Beryl Slater and Betty Roberts, from Dunstan Court, organised a special coffee morning and managed to raise £400.

Between 30 and 40 people attended, enjoying a cuppa and slice of cake together, and a cheque was recently presented to EACH Senior Community Fundraiser Victoria Goldsmith.

Sheila, 77, said: “We usually organise three coffee mornings a year and like to choose a different charity every time, but anything supporting children is particularly close to our hearts.

“It’s something we thoroughly enjoy doing, and it gives us a real sense of purpose.

“To see so many people come along – fellow tenants, staff and their families – is so rewarding, and we were very pleased with the way it went.

“Because of our age and health issues, we’re not able to do much. However, this is something we can do to try and make a difference.”

This was the second coffee morning Sheila, Beryl and Betty have organised for EACH, having previously raised £341 in June 2024.

In addition to teas, coffees and cakes, they gathered prizes for a raffle and there was also musical entertainment.

Dunstan Court is a housing with care scheme, where tenants can live independently with the benefit of care staff on site 24 hours a day. The complex contains 46 two-bedroom apartments and is Wulfstan Way – just two miles from EACH’s shop in Cherry Hinton.

Victoria said: “It was an absolute pleasure to drop in and spend time with some of the residents.

“The coffee morning sounded great, bringing people together while helping raise vital funds for our charity.

“We’re incredibly thankful to everyone who joined in and showed their support.”
