“Sometimes people are surprised when I tell them how old I am, but I feel ready for this and see it as a very special opportunity” – Kim says it is a ‘dream come true’ to take the reins of EACH’s new shop in Norwich

The manager of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices’ (EACH) new shop in the heart of Norwich has described the role as a “dream come true”.

Kim Jewell is taking the reins at the Castle Street store, which opens next Thursday (14th August).

It represents a rapid rise for the 22-year-old, who joined EACH in August 2023 as Sales Supervisor at its Unthank Road shop.

She then became Deputy Manager before taking over as Manager in Wymondham.

Now Kim has been appointed Manager in Castle Street – and says it is an opportunity she plans to grab with both hands.

“As soon as I found out we were opening this shop, I was desperate to get the job,” she said.

“I didn’t cry when I found out I’d got it but rang my mum straight away and was so excited. It’s literally a dream come true, and I feel so lucky.

“Sometimes people are surprised when I tell them how old I am, but I feel ready for this and see it as a very special opportunity.

“I’ve loved charity shops all my life, having visited so many during days out with my family, and I’m passionate about raising funds for EACH.

“Now I’ve got the chance to combine both things while working in the heart of my favourite city. I can’t believe it and feel there’s so much potential.”

Kim also has experience of working for High Street brands, but says she likes the “homely, wholesome” feel of charity shops.

“I definitely prefer that to a more corporate environment,” she said.

“I enjoy being around like-minded people who are there because they genuinely want to make a difference.

“Volunteers give their time, and it’s such a positive, productive place to be.

“I truly love it and find it so motivating, knowing every pound helps make a difference to the children and families receiving care and support from EACH.”

Kim is excited to be joined by Deputy Manager Tegen Jones, who is following her from Wymondham.

The site was the former home of The Body Shop, which had been open for more than 40 years before its closure in January.

“We’re thrilled to be moving into this prime location in the heart of the city,” said Sarah Throssell, Head of Retail Central Operations at EACH.

“It’s an iconic and much-loved building, and we’re looking forward to writing a new chapter in its long and proud history.

“It’s also a perfect complement to our existing shops in the area, strengthening our portfolio across the city.

“We’re sure customers are going to love it and can’t wait to open our doors and start welcoming them in.”
