Mamma Mia!
Kind-hearted pair Judith Aylott and Beverley Cass served up an Italian feast and raised more than £300 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The creative friends hosted a mouth-watering evening for 30 fellow homeowners at the McCarthy Stone Retirement Living accommodation in Cambourne.
Together, they cooked up a storm, with guests digging into hearty homemade dishes including bolognese pasta bake, roasted vegetable lasagne, lemon meringue roulade and lemon cheesecake. Generous diners even donated extra money to snap up any leftovers.
Judith volunteers two half-days a week at EACH’s shop in Huntingdon after starting in November 2024.
She said: “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening and tucked in, which was great to see.
“I love cooking. It’s something I’m passionate about, and it’s always lovely to see people appreciate and enjoy your food. It’s very satisfying and makes the hard work worthwhile.
“As well as enjoying the meal, everyone was also keen to support EACH. It’s such a great charity, and people gave generously because they’re so keen to help. We’re hoping to do another one in July.”
Guests paid £12 a head, which included two courses and a glass of wine, and the final total raised, including donations, was £315.50.
Judith said volunteering has become a huge part of her life since joining the EACH team.
She recently visited the charity’s hospice in Milton, saying the experience strengthened her determination to do what she can to help.
“Volunteering is something I thoroughly enjoy, and I absolutely loved Milton,” said the 75-year-old.
“It was such a peaceful and serene environment.
“Previously, perhaps like many others, I’d always associated a hospice with end-of-life care, but finding out more about all the fun and positive things that happen made me realise it’s about so much more. It’s made me feel even more passionate about doing what I can to help.”
