East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices’ (EACH) fast-growing retail operation has stepped up another gear by investing in a new branded van to collect furniture and help generate extra funds.
The vehicle will be used to pick up quality, unwanted items within a 20-mile radius of EACH’s shop in March. Customers can arrange a free collection of items including washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers, as well as dining tables and chairs, wardrobes, chest of drawers and sofas. The goods will then be sold in-store to raise funds for EACH, which cares for children and supports families across Cambridgeshire and the rest of East Anglia.
The smart new van – resplendent with key messaging and information – is on the road now and becomes the charity’s third furniture branded vehicle.
Stephen Ball, EACH’s Warehouse Operations and Supply Chain Manager, said: “We’re thrilled and delighted to introduce another van to our fleet, with others doing the rounds in Norfolk and Essex. We’ve been using a plain lease vehicle for the last year, but this is so much better – a real statement and an investment for the future. It’ll make our retail operation even slicker, raise awareness of the service we provide and be of great benefit to our customers, who can easily get in touch to arrange a free collection.”
The team gratefully accept most items of good-quality furniture, including white goods, household gems and electrical items, excluding televisions. Unfortunately, they cannot accept display cabinets, microwaves, divan beds, mattresses (unless brand new) or glass TV stands.
“Donations of solid-wood furniture, wardrobes, tables and chairs, coffee tables and clean sofas are particularly welcome, although upholstered furniture must carry a current fire regulation label,” added Stephen. “The best and easiest way to arrange a free collection is to head here. It’s quick, simple and means people can make a booking whenever they like, day or night.”
Alternatively, customers can make a booking by calling 01354 700397.
EACH’s giant retail hub in March is at Meadowlands, in Wisbech Road. It opened in August 2024 and, as well as being a community and furniture shop, acts as a regional distribution centre for the charity’s stores in Whittlesey, St Ives, Huntingdon, Ely, Soham and Downham Market.
