Dignitaries and community leaders from across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough came together for a special awareness event hosted by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
Key figures including Julie Spence OBE, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, and Frances Stanley, the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire, were among those invited to the gathering at EACH’s hospice in Milton.
The high-profile guestlist also included Helen Pemberton, from the Cambridge Children’s Hospital campaign board, Newmarket Mayor Philippa Winter, Suffolk County Councillor Rachel Hood, Jonathan Jelley MBE, the new chair of Healthwatch Peterborough, and Michelle King, Chief Executive of Peterborough-based charity Little Miracles.
After enjoying welcome drinks on the front lawn, visitors were given tours of the hospice and found out more about EACH’s vital work during speeches by Chief Executive Kevin Clements and Chair of Trustees Brad McLean.
They also had the opportunity to see Milton’s family accommodation, which has just reopened after a major refurbishment. The three family bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen have been given a stunning new look as part of a full renovation and refurbishment, and one of the eye-catching highlights is a beautiful mural painted by artist Natasha Hulse.
“It was such a useful, timely event and fantastic to welcome a network of influential community leaders to our beautiful hospice,” said Kevin.
“There were some very positive conversations and promising new connections made throughout the day, and we were thrilled the guestlist included representatives from a range of ethnic backgrounds.
“As an organisation, we have a clear ambition to reach the unmet needs of diverse communities across our region, and there was particular interest in EACH being involved in upcoming events in Peterborough.
“That’s why an event of this nature was so important, and it was a golden opportunity to unite the community, deepen understanding of our vital care and inspire support, while also celebrating the work on our family accommodation.”
Many of the guests were personally invited by Emma Deterding, Founder and Creative Director of Kelling Designs, as well as being an EACH Trustee and a Patron for nearly 30 years.
With incredible support from the interior and design world, Emma’s company oversaw and managed the family accommodation project, and, as a show of appreciation, she was presented with a bouquet of flowers following the speeches.
