“I saw two mums swap numbers, and that was a powerful moment. It’s exactly what these groups are for, and it’s always very gentle, relaxed and informal” – parents enjoy a first Remembering with Love evening in Peterborough

Bereaved parents planted forget-me-knots during a poignant Remembering with Love evening in Peterborough. The gathering was organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and took place at Lime Academy Orton.

Seven family members attended and took part in a craft activity, using outdoor paint to decorate terracotta plant pots. They then filled them with soil and planted forget-me-knots, to take home.

“Parents can be as open as they like on these evenings,” said Ceri Dobson, EACH’s Groups and Events Coordinator at Milton. “Of course, they can talk about their child and share their feelings and memories. However, there’s no pressure, and they might just want a cuppa and a chat, while interacting with other families.

“I saw two mums swap numbers, and that was a powerful moment for me. It’s exactly what these groups are for, and it’s always very gentle, relaxed and informal.”

This was the third Remembering with Love evening, although the first in Peterborough. The first two had been themed around Christmas and Valentine’s Day and took place at Milton.

“We were very grateful to the Lime Academy Orton, and they’re keen to establish a relationship and find out more about our work,” added Ceri. “Hopefully it’s the start of more Peterborough events.”
