Theatregoers took centre stage after turning boos and cheers into coins and notes – joining forces to raise a dazzling £7,000 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
Donations were collected after performances of family favourite Aladdin, at Hunstanton’s historic Princess Theatre.
Sam Littlewood played the title role and he was supported by Josh Rettie (Widow Twankey), Jessica Broadbent (Jafarazad), Freya Barton (Princess Jasmine), Amy Robinson (the Spirit of the Ring) and Lewis Southall (the Emperor).
Post-show bucket collections took place after every performance, and a cheque was recently presented by Proprietor Brian Hallard and daughter-in-law Anna, the theatre’s Marketing Manager, to EACH volunteer Judith Inward.
“The Princess Theatre’s audiences have been so generous, and, for that, we’re thankful to everyone who contributed to this fantastic total,” said Anna.
“It’s a privilege to support EACH, and the amount raised is a reflection of the theatre’s reputation in Norfolk.”
To celebrate the presentation, families being supported by EACH at its Norfolk base – The Nook, in Framingham Earl – were invited to enjoy Sunday’s performances of The Sooty Show.
It is the second year in a row staff and audiences at The Princess Theatre have supported EACH, having raised £5,500 during performances of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs the previous Christmas.
Another £1,000 was then raised during last year’s Great British Seaside Special Variety Show.
“On behalf of everyone at EACH, I’d like to say a huge thank you to every audience member who gave so generously and showed such incredible community spirit,” said Senior Community Fundraiser Natasha Butler.
“Pantomime is all about magic, laughter and bringing people together, and this year’s show delivered all three in abundance.
“It’s wonderful something as joyful as an afternoon or evening at the theatre can create such a positive impact, and this money will make a genuine difference to the children and families receiving our care and support.”
The pantomime started its run on 6th December and finished on 4th January.
