Game-for-a-laugh families enjoyed some frothy frolics while tackling a popular Bubble Rush in Newmarket.
The fun event was enjoyed by 780 good sports and raised £25,000 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
EACH’s Bubble Rush has previously been popular in Norwich, but this was only the second edition in Newmarket.
The course featured four bubble stations along a 2.5km route. Each had a cannon that pumped out coloured foam to create a four-foot-deep bubble bath.
Among those to take part, along with their respective families, were Charlotte Turner and Natalie Carvell.
Both mums are friends with David and Lisa Radcliffe, whose four-year-old son received care at EACH’s hospice in Milton.
George Radcliffe was diagnosed with the soft tissue tumour Rhabdomyosarcoma, in May 2022. He was referred to EACH the following Spring and died at its Cambridgeshire hospice in October 2023.
Lisa was there volunteering at the Bubble Rush, and Charlotte completed it with five-year-old daughter Amalie.
She said: “It was such an amazing, fun and colourful day, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
“There was such a great atmosphere, despite a couple of showers, and everyone came together to support a very worthy cause – one so close to our hearts.
“Amalie had a smile on her face the whole way round, and we’d encourage anyone to sign up for an EACH event. It’s great being able to do something together as a family.”
The Carvell family also had a memorable day, and Natalie was joined by husband Sebastian and children Abigail, eight, and Theodore, four.
“The Bubble Rush was great, and even a few spots of rain couldn’t put a dampener on our day,” she said.
“There was a great feeling among the crowd, and the children loved going through the bubbles and seeing their t-shirts and skin change colour. It made for a colourful bath later that evening!
“We loved being part of it, and George was at the forefront of our minds as we completed the course.”
Events Fundraising Manager Emma Cook was grateful to everyone who signed up, those who gave their time to volunteer and bubble arch sponsors Crem Recruitment, Blakes Decorators and VM Hosts.
“We had another fantastic day, and everyone had a brilliant time,” she said.
“In terms of both participants and the amount raised, the numbers were extremely positive, and we’re thankful to everyone who signed up and supported us, as well as those who made donations.”
The next big dates in the EACH events calendar are this Sunday’s Piglet Junior Hog, the rearranged Norfolk Pier 2 Pier walk, on 19th July, the new St Edmundsbury Cathedral Abseil, on 16th August, and the Suffolk Pier 2 Pier walk, on 6th September. A Mini Pier 2 Pier event is taking place on the same day, giving young fundraisers and their families a chance to walk 3.5 miles around Southwold.
