“His obvious passion for our work and the wider hospice sector was very clear, and he gained the full attention of club members and our existing supporters” – former newsreader Sir Martyn Lewis is guest speaker at a lunch in aid of EACH

Former TV newsreader Sir Martyn Lewis enjoyed a tour of The Nook before delivering an “inspirational” speech on behalf of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The popular broadcaster, who is President of EACH, was joined on the trip by Hospice UK Chief Executive Toby Porter.

The pair were shown around the charity’s Framingham Earl base by Service Manager Louise Gower and also spent time with Director of Fundraising and Communications Kevin Clements and Chair of Trustees Brad McLean.

Sir Martyn, who anchored the news on both ITV and BBC during his illustrious career, was then guest speaker at a lunch in aid of EACH, held at The Norfolk Club.

Kevin said: “Sir Martyn delivered an inspirational speech and really did us proud.

“His obvious passion for our work and the wider hospice sector was very clear, and he gained the full attention of club members and our existing supporters.

“We’re extremely grateful for his wonderful, continued support.”

Sir Martyn is well-known for his extensive work in the voluntary sector and vice-president of Hospice UK.

He was awarded a CBE in 1997 and knighted for his charitable work in the 2016 New Year’s Honours.

The 79-year-old has previously hosted events for EACH, including interviewing bereaved mum Leigh Smith during the launch of The Nook Appeal in 2014.
