Mums, dads and carers learnt new skills, got creative and switched off from their busy lives during special evenings organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The themed events were for those supported at The Treehouse, and, at the first, they were joined by members of Ipswich Wildlife Group.
Three dads and male carers had the chance to make bird boxes and hedgehog houses to put in their gardens, while they also left a couple behind to take pride of place in the hospice’s woodland grounds.
Afterwards they were able to sit back and enjoy a delicious barbecue, supplied by the catering team and run by volunteers.
A separate evening for mums and female carers followed three days later, on 16th June.
It was hosted by Revolution Ipswich, where six family members enjoyed a ‘mocktail masterclass’ and learnt how to mix their own delicious drinks.
“We had two lovely evenings, and our thanks go to Ipswich Wildlife Group, for all their support at the dads and male carers event,” said Kelly Evans, EACH’s Groups and Events Co-ordinator at The Treehouse.
“As well as giving their time, they supplied the materials free of charge, which was a lovely and much-appreciated gesture.
“We were also very grateful to Revolution Ipswich, for hosting such a fun night.
“Everyone enjoyed mixing their own drinks, with the support of our designated bartender, and then sat back and enjoyed them afterwards.
“A good time was had by all, and we also played games to get to know each other better. We were then given a table in the main bar area, set up for us with Nachos, and took part in the quiz night.
“A big thank you to Revolution Ipswich, for looking after us so well and making sure we had everything we needed. Nothing was too much trouble.
“These groups have become an important opportunity for parents and carers to connect, share and spend time with others on a similar journey. Amid a busy life, it’s also a great chance to enjoy some time just for themselves.”
