“It was a brilliant, relaxed, inclusive and engaging afternoon. Siblings intertwined, and it was lovely stepping back and seeing everyone having fun” – families enjoy games and dancing during a belated New Year celebration

Families ushered in the new year during a belated celebration organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The special event was for those receiving care and support at The Treehouse and took place at Grundisburgh village hall on Saturday.

Twenty-six people representing seven families came along for a fun-filled afternoon that included disco dancing, games, prizes and delicious food.

They recreated the countdown to midnight, releasing party poppers and then tucking into a special celebration cake.

Other highlights included a photobooth, a foosball table, air hockey, a visit from Clown Doctor Chris Draude and a chance to meet Pets as Therapy (PAT) dog Bailey, who was accompanied by owner Bernadette Mooney.

Every family had their own table covered with handpicked photos showcasing the last year of their EACH journey.

“It was a brilliant, relaxed, inclusive and engaging afternoon,” said Groups and Events Co-ordinator Kelly Evans, who played host and DJ.

“We often arrange wellbeing events that have a clear structure, whereas this was pretty much the opposite.

“Instead, it was a time for families to socialise and spend time together, either within their own individual units or by mixing with others.

“Siblings intertwined, and it was lovely stepping back and seeing everyone – from children receiving care through to grandparents – connecting and having fun.”

Kelly, who was grateful to the volunteers who gave up their time to ensure everything ran smoothly, said it was golden opportunity for families to catch up after the busy festive period.

“It was also a chance to look ahead to 2026,” she added.

“There’s plenty more to look forward to, and we were able to talk about the many things we have planned later in the year.”
