More than 100 family members supported by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) enjoyed a magical evening of fun, laughter and unforgettable animal encounters at Colchester Zoo’s annual Dream Night.
The exclusive evening was specially organised for children and families representing hospices and charities across the region.
With the zoo closed to the public, they were able to explore at their own pace and enjoy a host of activities in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
As families arrived, they were treated to a professional family photograph, printed on the night as a keepsake.
Children also received goodie bags and cuddly toys, while entertainment included touch-and-feel animal experiences and the chance to stroke Pets as Therapy (PAT) dogs.
Guests enjoyed a buffet tea before exploring the zoo and getting up close to a variety of animals. The evening then finished with a disco.
“Dream Night is always a highlight within our year, and this year’s event was no exception,” said Clare Oakley, a Groups and Events Co-ordinator from EACH.
“It was wonderful to see so many children and families enjoying such a special evening together. From meeting the animals and taking part in activities to simply exploring the zoo in a relaxed environment, there were smiles everywhere you looked.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Colchester Zoo for their continued support and generosity. Events like this create precious memories and give families the opportunity to enjoy quality time together away from the challenges they often face on a daily basis.”
Dream Night is an international initiative that began at Rotterdam Zoo in 1996. It has since been adopted by zoos around the world, and Colchester Zoo has welcomed EACH families to its annual event for the past 17 years.
This year’s Dream Night took place on Friday, 5th June.
