“There were lots of smiles, and it’s a real joy to look around and see everyone relaxing, having fun and creating lasting memories” – families hit the beach and forge new friendships during a trip to Felixstowe

Families enjoyed a day of sun, sand and smiles during a fun-packed beach day in Felixstowe.

The gathering was organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) for children, siblings, parents and grandparents receiving care and support at The Treehouse, in Ipswich.

Nearly 40 people from ten families, in addition to staff and volunteers, enjoyed a day of fun at The Hut.

The facility, which has its own kitchen and accessible toilet, is especially for charity and community groups and proved a perfect base.

EACH Play Specialist Hailey Allen was delighted with the way things went.

“The sun shone throughout, and everyone had a fantastic time,” she said.

“The beach day is always a special event and a great way to bring families together, to enjoy each other’s company and build relationships.

“It’s also a great chance for parents to take a well-earned breather and spend time socialising with other families, knowing members of our care team and volunteers are on hand to support them.

“The children enjoyed playing on the beach and having a dip in the water, and there’s so much space inside the hut.

“There were lots of smiles, and it’s a real joy to look around and see everyone relaxing, having fun and creating lasting memories.”

Staff brought a hoist and hired a beach wheelchair, so children receiving care were able to dip their feet in the water and feel the sand between their toes.

Families were also able to enjoy arts, crafts and games, including colouring pebbles from the beach.

They brought their own picnics but also enjoyed tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks.

Hailey was joined by EACH’s Director of Care Helen Finlinson, Occupational Therapist Jo Crane, Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapies Technician Lauren Wright and Carer Molly Lawrence, as well as volunteers Richard Macey and Maxine Smithen.

The beach day took place on Saturday, 9th August.
