Families enjoyed a vibrant jungle-themed band practice session organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The colourful, interactive after-school music therapy group featured animal costumes, props, songs and poems and took place at The Treehouse.
Musical highlights included a fun rendition of Guns N’ Roses classic Welcome to the Jungle, as well as family favourites Down in the Jungle, The Lion Sleeps Tonight and Hakuna Matata, from Disney hit The Lion King.
There were also poems about animals, refreshments and a jungle-themed cake.
Makaton signs and symbols were used to make things more accessible.
“It was another brilliant event,” said EACH Music Therapist Ray Travasso, who organises the sessions with Groups and Events Co-ordinator Kelly Evans and Play Specialist Hailey Allen.
“We really went to town, and, as well as lots of music, the team were great sports and got in the spirit by wearing colourful animal costumes.
“We couldn’t do it without them or our incredible volunteers, and I hope the families had a great time.
“These sessions are a fantastic way of connecting people and, in some cases, helping draw them out of isolation.
“It’s all about escapism, spending time with others and having fun with music.”
Ray was delighted to be joined by Revd Emma Haggar and fellow musicians from All Hallows Church, in Landseer Road, Ipswich.
EACH’s band practice evenings feature sensory-adapted songs and content. They revolve around a unique theme, carefully tailored to cater to the needs of children and young people.
The next session will be themed around different colours, with a magical Disney night following on 21st November.
