Songs and silliness were the order of the day as families enjoyed a special multi-sensory, interactive pantomime.
Jack and the BeanSTEM was hosted by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) at The Nook and performed by actors from Head 2 Head Sensory Theatre.
Thirty-six people – children receiving care and their families – enjoyed some early festive fun, and there were puppets, props and sensory toys for added stimulation, with the cast using Makaton signing.
“It was a brilliant afternoon of songs and silliness,” said Clare Oakley, EACH’s Groups and Events Co-ordinator at The Nook.
“The cast did such an outstanding job, encouraging lots of audience participation, and there was so much laughter in the air.
“Everyone was happy and positive afterwards, and it was the perfect start to Christmas here at The Nook.”
The panto took place on Sunday, 23rd November, and the previous evening six children enjoyed a trip to Zaks American diner in Poringland.
As well as tucking into a delicious meal, they enjoyed sampling different milkshakes.
The ‘Sibz +’ session was for youngsters aged 11 and over who are bereaved or have a brother or sister receiving care at The Nook.
Clare believes it is important to offer something for older brothers and sisters, and, earlier this year, nine ‘teens’ enjoyed an adrenaline-charged evening of laser tag adventure at Quasar, in Norwich.
“Something like this gives them their own space and is more appealing,” she said.
“They’ve all got a connection – using EACH – and it was lovely to see them interact and form friendships.”
