“The children took such pride in making their own meals, and it was a joy to watch them help each other, working side by side” – children, siblings and parents roll up their sleeves and dive into a delicious world of Chinese cuisine

Families came together to serve up a day of fun, food and togetherness during a Chinese cookery workshop organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

Delicious aromas filled the air as children and parents donned their aprons and made a feast from scratch.

Mouth-watering noodles and sumptuous spring rolls were on the menu, and the day was run by Tanya London, from Cook Stars. It took place at the Pyramid Community Centre, in Bretton, Peterborough.

“Everyone had a wonderful experience, carefully measuring ingredients, chopping vegetables and skilfully rolling filo pastry,” said EACH Child and Family Practitioner Jan Stanbury-Jones.

“The children took such pride in making their own meals, and it was a joy to watch them help each other, working side by side.

“The noodles smelt delicious as they came out of the oven, and by the look of the empty dishes and smiles all round they tasted delicious too.”

While the meals were cooking, the children busied themselves by making autumn decorations and parents were able to chat and share valuable time together.

“We had a wonderful afternoon cooking up a Chinese feast,” added Tanya.

“The children did a wonderful job of slicing, mixing and mastering the fiddly folding, and I very much enjoyed seeing the families eating together. It gave me a lovely opportunity to chat to everyone.”

Eighteen family members receiving care and support from EACH at Milton came along, and the Cooking Stars Day was held on Sunday, 30th November.

All the families left with recipe cards so they could make things again at home.
