“Everyone has been friendly and understanding, and I’m grateful that the shop is accessible and I’ve been made to feel so welcome” – Millie-May is making a difference by volunteering for EACH

A dedicated volunteer with a rare genetic condition has been praised for her valued contribution at the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) shop in Royston.

Millie-May Jones began helping earlier this year and has become a much-loved member of the team. The 23-year-old lives at Orchard Manor, a residential home offering supported-living accommodation in Meldreth, and has Costello syndrome. Her enthusiasm, dedication and positive attitude have made a real impact on staff, volunteers and customers alike.

Shop Manager Terri Rolph said: “Millie-May has become a very valued member of our volunteer team since joining in April. She’s always willing to help and takes great pride in her role, whether that’s helping to keep the shop looking its best or assisting customers at the till. We’re incredibly grateful for the time she gives and the contribution she makes. She brings a wonderful energy to the shop, and it’s a pleasure to have her as part of our team.”

Millie-May said she has felt very welcome since starting her volunteering role.

“I enjoy coming into the shop and have a lot of fun when I’m here,” she said. “Everyone has been friendly and understanding, and I’m grateful that the shop is accessible and I’ve been made to feel so welcome.”

EACH relies on volunteers across its retail network.

“Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and people like Millie-May make a huge difference,” added Terri. “We’re proud to have her on our team and look forward to seeing her continue to grow in confidence and enjoy her volunteering.”
