“Every step taken and every pound raised helps us continue our vital work caring for children and supporting families across the region” – wonderful walkers raise £24,000 after completing EACH’s Pier 2 Pier Suffolk event

Tenacious trekkers laced up their walking boots to complete a 16-mile challenge and raise £24,000 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

More than 160 people signed up for the charity’s energy-sapping Pier 2 Pier Suffolk event, making their way from Lowestoft to Southwold. It was the third edition of the popular challenge and saw participants start on the coast before heading inland along fields and country lanes.

EACH Events Fundraiser Ellie Nevard said: “It was a fantastic day, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather for our wonderful walkers. They did a brilliant job, and kudos to every single person who took part, because it’s a physically demanding challenge. They were great sports from the start, with many donning purple t-shirts to show their support, and everyone was so lovely, positive and encouraging. They created a magical atmosphere, and I hope they felt rightly proud of themselves after crossing the finish line. Every step taken and every pound raised helps us continue our vital work caring for children and supporting families across the region.”

The walkers set off at 8am on Saturday, and everyone enjoyed fish and chips together at the end, kindly provided by Pimp My Fish. The event was proudly sponsored by long-term supporters The Chestnut Group.

The fundraising total so far is £24,000, although that figure is expected to grow as individual sponsorship money is received.

Meanwhile, children and families took part in EACH’s first-ever Mini Pier 2 Pier, which took place alongside the main event on Saturday morning. The 3.5-mile route started and finished at Southwold Pier, taking participants past beach huts, boats and more during a picturesque walk. An activity pack was available at the start and filled with fun things to look out for along the way.

“There was a real buzz, and everyone that took part seemed to enjoy our first Mini Pier 2 Pier event,” added Ellie. “It’s something we hope to grow and expand in 2026. Huge thanks to everyone who took part in both events, as well as to the magnificent volunteers who gave their time to make the day such a success. It wouldn’t have been possible without them.”
