Young readers can treat themselves to a new book during half-term thanks to a popular scheme run by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The charity is reviving its Free Books for Kids promotion across its 52 shops in Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.
Children are welcome to pop in and pick up one free book throughout their week-long holiday.
Sarah Throssell, Head of Central Retail Operations, said: “We’re pleased and excited to be running this fabulous initiative again.
“It’s become a regular school holiday event for us, and, as ever, we hope it encourages and entertains young readers throughout half-term.
“It’s always popular and well-received, particularly when families may be struggling for low-cost ideas to keep children entertained.
“We appreciate the value of reading and know how precious family story time can be.
“That, in itself, creates a strong link with the care we deliver, because we help families make the most of their time together, creating memories that last forever.”
EACH relies on voluntary donations for the majority of its income.
This year alone, it needs to raise £7.5 million from donations and fundraising activities and £8.7 million in retail income. Only 15% of its income comes from the government, county councils and the NHS.
